Tama Fortner

Writer, Editor, Proofreader

Tama began her writing career at the ripe old age of eight, aspiring to be like her favorite literary heroine, Jo from Little Women—and she’s been working with words ever since.

Years of devouring books were followed by a Bachelor of Arts degree in both English and History and a Master’s degree in Reading Education. Tama began her publishing career at Ideals Children’s Books before moving to Tommy Nelson, the children’s division of Thomas Nelson. When she and her husband decided to start their own children’s division, she launched into the world of freelance writing and editing.

With over twenty years of experience, Tama has worked on literally hundreds of books for such clients as Thomas Nelson, Zondervan, and B&H Kids. Her skills include writing, ghostwriting, copy writing, substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading. As an editor, her goal is to help a writer’s own voice and message come shining through.

While Tama specializes in children’s books, devotionals, gift books, young adult fiction, and adult nonfiction, she has done a bit of everything. Just a few of her credits include:

  • adaptation of Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions for Kids by Sarah Young

  • compilation and adaptation of the Lucado Treasury of Bedtime Prayers

  • adaptation of Grace for the Moment: 365 Devotions for Kids by Max Lucado

  • ghostwriter for God’s Little Princess Bedtime Devotional by Sheila Walsh

  • writer for God Is Always Good (Tommy Nelson)

  • writer for 100 Things God Loves About You (Zondervan)

When not tapping away at her laptop or gently wielding her red pen, Tama enjoys a crazy, wonderful life filled with God, family, and friends. She makes her home in the hilly suburbs of Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband, two kids, and an incredibly lazy dog who doubles as a foot warmer. Her prayer is that everything she does brings glory to the One who saves her. You can find out more about Tama at www.linkin.com/in/TamaFortner and at www.tamafortner.com
