Jesse Lipes

Developmental Editor, Copy Editor, Proofreader

Jesse Lipes made his first foray into the editing world by serving as the developmental editor for three creative nonfiction manuscripts on behalf of Moody Publishers. Through this process, he gained valuable experience working collaboratively with authors, ensuring clarity of meaning while retaining the author’s personal style. Jesse’s work with Moody led him to an ongoing relationship with a missions organization called Frontiers, for which he edits a variety of materials, including curricula, articles, website content, and videos. Jesse also has extensive experience proofreading book-length manuscripts. Regardless of context, he guarantees that content and structure are grammatically accurate, engaging, and stylistically consistent.

Prior to breaking into the publishing industry, Jesse attended Wheaton College, graduating in 2006 with a bachelor of arts in English and a minor in political science. Having been completely transformed by the study of literature, Jesse decided to continue refining his research and writing skills by completing two master’s degrees: one in theology from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, graduating in 2009, and the other in English from Wake Forest University, graduating in 2012. Somewhere during his academic career, Jesse realized that his greatest source of enjoyment came from the writing process. He’s thrilled to have found a way to be involved in this process professionally.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Jesse has held a variety of jobs, doing everything from serving as the project manager for the tech/telecom group of an expert network to working as an admissions representative for Gordon-Conwell to making cappuccinos as a Starbucks barista. After spending some time out of academia, he has a renewed sense of enthusiasm to find himself in the field of editing, once again working with language in order to help shape ideas.

When he’s not working, Jesse plays tennis badly and tries to spend as much time in the Word as possible. Originally from Portland, Oregon, he often daydreams about pine trees, the Pearl District, and Powell’s Books. Among many others, he loves the work of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Flannery O’Connor, WH Auden, TS Eliot, and James Joyce. He’s a die-hard Manchester United supporter, and he feels confident that anyone who lives in Boston for a few years will become a lifelong Red Sox fan. However, far more importantly than any of this, Jesse’s a husband to a stunning woman with whom he loves to explore all of the various sights and attractions around their current home of Durham, North Carolina.
