Jean Kavich Bloom
Line Editing, Copy Editing
Jean Bloom has been in the publishing industry for nearly thirty years. For twenty-four of those years she worked at Zondervan publishing house, finishing her career there as an executive managing editor. In late 2011 she took her freelance editorial services business full-time when she and her husband returned to Central Indiana to be near family.
Jean’s “sweet spot” is line/copy editing, helping authors polish their material so it “sings.” For both fiction and nonfiction featuring story, she addresses not only grammar and sentence construction, but crafting timeline, point of view, flow, staging, and inconsistencies.
Among her publishing clients are HarperCollins Christian Publishing (Zondervan and Thomas Nelson), Our Daily Bread Ministries, Harvest House, David C Cook, Baker Publishing Group, Somersault, CrowdScribed, and Warner Press. In the last five years, she has edited over 120 books, both fiction and many nonfiction titles in several genres and categories. Professional and author recommendations are conveniently located on Jean’s website, bloominwordseditorial.com. Her professional writing includes devotionals, client blog posts, and two devotionals she authored for young children, Bible Promises for God’s Precious Princess and Bible Promises for God’s Treasured Boy.
Jean writes about life and faith and the writing life on her personal blog, Bloom in Words Too. She is also a regular contributor to The Glorious Table community blog for women and the ACFW Indiana chapter blog, Hoosier Ink. Jean and her husband, Cal, have three adult children and five grandchildren.
